Cleaning up a Hisense Android TV
· 2 min read
With Hisense you have to start with a question that does not have the same answer on every model: does your television run Android TV or VIDAA?
Android TV or VIDAA
Hisense sells both, sometimes in the same range in the same year.
- Android TV: has the Play Store, Google Assistant and developer options. Everything on this site applies.
- VIDAA: Hisense's own system. Not Android, no ADB, nothing we can document.
To settle it: if Settings contains Device preferences → About → Build, it is Android. If that is nowhere to be found, it is VIDAA.
What to look for on an Android Hisense
adb shell pm list packages | grep -iE "hisense|vidaa|jamdeo"
jamdeo surprises people: it was the company developing Hisense's television
software, and its name still shows up in packages on older models.
The usual suspects
Usage-reporting services and preinstalled promotional apps. On Hisense they tend
to be com.hisense. followed by something like report, push or upgrade.
Careful with upgrade: that is the one that brings firmware updates. Remove
it and you stop receiving them. On a television that no longer gets any, it
makes no difference; on one that still does, it does.
What not to touch
The HDMI source management package. On some Hisense sets it is separate from the system, and removing it leaves you unable to change input — precisely the opposite of what you want.
Common models
